Saudi Commission for Health Specialties Updates Recognition of MRCGP International Holders – Effective July 2025
The Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) has announced a major policy update effective July 2025, impacting physicians holding the MRCGP International (Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners – International) qualification.
Previously, MRCGP International holders seeking recognition as a Registrar in Family Medicine were required to meet the following conditions:
1-A minimum of 2 to 4 years of clinical experience in family medicine after obtaining their qualification.
2-Successful completion of the Family medicine Prometric Exam.
The New Policy – July 2025
Under the revised guidelines:
Experience requirements is no longer needed
Only the Prometric Exam remains mandatory for recognition.
The applicant must also be currently practicing as a Family Medicine physician at the time of application.
This change is providing greater opportunities for MRCGP International graduates to work as Registrars in Family Medicine without additional years of waiting.
Additionally, this policy update applies equally to all Royal College fellowship and membership qualifications across specialties, ensuring a standardized pathway for international medical graduates holding recognized Royal College credentials.
